Stump Grinding & Removal
Stump Grinding & Removal:
In the tree care industry, two terms often used are stump grinding and stump removal. They are both referring to the process of getting the stump(s) removed from your yard by the process of grinding them into mulch. There are a few different options for you to consider when contacting us for a stump grinding quote. Below is a brief explanation of the different types of grinding service options we offer depending on your needs and budget. In addition to stump grinding we also offer land clearing and tree removal.
Stump Grind and Go
Stump Grind and go– This is our grinding only service involving no raking or clean-up. All of the grinding material is left for the property owner to handle as they see fit. This is the most economical grinding service we offer but also the most labor intensive for the property owner especially if the stump is located in the lawn. This service is generally recommended for lot clearing operations involving multiple stumps or areas where some type of excavation will be taking place after the stumps are removed.

Stump Standard Grind
This is one of the two most common services we offer. This service involves grinding the stump and surface roots 8-12” below ground. We then push the excess stump grinding material back into the hole, rake up the work area around the stump and neatly pile any excess material over the stump hole for the property owner to disburse or dispose of. This organic material will consist of a mixture of wood chips and pulverized dirt and can be spread in gardens or around existing landscaping. This finished grind is more than sufficient for restoring the area back to grass or planting small plants.
Stump Standard Grind with Haul Away & Disposal
This is the standard grind but included in the cost is the haul away and disposal of all of the excess grinding material. When completed, the stump site will be left at lawn grade. The property owner can then restore the site with topsoil and seed or sod. This service is highly recommended for larger stumps (24” diameter and up) as larger stumps can produce well over a few yards of material. (Large 7’ diameter stump with material).
Stump Replant Grind
While the standard grind is 8-12” below ground, the replant grind is as deep and as wide as we need to go to make sure a new tree can be planted in the same location without any stump or root obstructions. Generally, for stumps 24” diameter and under, we would extend the grind to approximately 60” wide and 20” deep. (deeper and wider grinds could be achieved if necessary). Since the grind diameter is much larger on a replant grind, it is more destructive to the surrounding landscape and produces much more excess material to be disposed of. During your consultation, we will discuss all of your options for the grind and the best possible location for your new tree. Sometimes moving the tree over a few feet is the best option.
Complete Stump & Landscape Site Restoration
This service includes standard stump grinding with complete haul-away and disposal, followed by delivery of pulverized topsoil. The topsoil is spread over the stump areas, bringing the site back to the existing lawn grade, and then grass seed is planted. All that’s left for the property owner to do is keep the area watered. This comprehensive option is ideal for properties with multiple stumps or larger stump areas.
